Privacy Policy

Last updated: 22 July 2026

Groove Unit collects no data. There are no accounts, no analytics, and no tracking. The app has no network access at all — it is technically incapable of sending anything off your Mac.

The short version

Groove Unit is a desk companion that lives in your menu bar. To dance in time with your music, it analyzes the audio playing on your Mac — but that analysis happens live, on your device, and the audio is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. We never see it, and neither does anyone else.

What we collect

Nothing. Groove Unit does not collect, store, or transmit any personal data or usage data. On the App Store, our privacy label is Data Not Collected.

Audio analysis, on-device

No network access

Groove Unit ships with no networking entitlement. It cannot connect to the internet, so it cannot transmit audio, usage, or any other information. This isn't a promise we ask you to trust — it's enforced by the app's sandbox.

Apple Music (optional)

If you choose to add your weekly mixtape to Apple Music, Groove Unit asks the Music app to create a playlist for you using Apple Events. This happens only when you tap that button, stays entirely on your Mac, and reads or controls nothing else. Declining leaves every other feature working.

Data stored on your Mac

Your preferences — such as which companion is on stage and simple local stats like listening streaks — are stored only on your own Mac using standard macOS settings. This information never leaves your device and is removed if you delete the app.

Children's privacy

Groove Unit does not collect data from anyone, including children. It is rated 4+.

Changes to this policy

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date above. Since the app collects no data, we don't expect the substance to change.
